I'm (Almost) Starting to Feel Guilty About This...

It's been like a forced vacation this week. With my workload and all the corporate politicking lately, I think I'm just considering *any* time away from the office to be a vacation.

Of course, any time off where ones closest and most treasured companion is a box of kleenex is really stretching the definition of "vacation".

That was me on Monday.

It finally happened. I finally came down with a full-blown cold. I woke up with a headache, a sore throat and full-on head congestion. I don't like taking sick days... I used to have to be flat on my back before I consider taking one. But I've become more pragmatic in my old age and realised that getting rest helps me to keep the suffering over two or three days, vs. dragging it out for a week. Also, I've been quite militant in sending my staff home when they were sick -- mainly so that they wouldn't infect me -- so I figured it would be hypocritical to drag my own contagion-ridden body into work. So I took a sick day and stayed home. I just vegetated and napped and nursed the cold with chicken soup and orange juice.

I did go into the office yesterday. To tell you the truth, I might even have felt a little worse than on Monday -- I certainly didn't feel better -- but I felt guilty about taking two days off in the row. Especially since it was coming off a weekend. But it was miserable. The head congestion was definitely worse and by noon, I was ready to cut off my arm for some antihistamines -- drugs, of course, which no one in the office had.

Today, I'm feeling better. I finally succumbed to boatloads of over-the-counter drugs last night.

But now I'm snowed in. Again.
